We Chat: All in one super app

China, the fast-growing economy and most populated country of the world. If you wanna know about how the internet will be in the future, China has become a guide to the world. For every others internet is internet, but for China internet is intranet. They have strong firewall to filter the foreign sites. So there is no Facebook, no YouTube, no google. Instead they have fulfilled the internet vacuum with Chinese big monster apps which have introduced the huge companies. So, for Google there’s Baidu, for YouTube there’s Youku, for twitter there’s Sina Weibo and the list goes on and on. Before, outside world hadn’t cared much about Chinese Internet but now all of the sudden they have developed some of the amazing features that the western apps are trying to copy them. The greatest example of this is WE CHAT that does every single function of number of western apps. 

We Chat is actually a super app, performs number of works. It’s like Facebook, Skype and Uber, its more like amazon, Instagram, Venom and tinder. You can find every service you wish to to have in We Chat. You can book movie tickets from We Chat. You can book the flight tickets and moreover you can get the flight status notification from We Chat. You can book the taxi through We Chat and pay the bill through same app. It has the heat map that shows how crowed a place is, or popular tourists site, or your favourite shopping mall and a list of services goes on and on.

Furthermore, this super app provides text messaging, voice messaging, one to many broadcast messaging, video conferencing, video games, sharing photographs and videos, location sharing and many more. Another amazing feature is that, it can share the contacts with people nearby via Bluetooth and provides various contacting features to contact the desired person, who is connected to the app. The list of services goes on basically forever. 

The app is available on Android, iPhone, BhackBerry, Windows Phone and Symbian phone. It is not that the list of features make the app so powerful, the reason is that it is all in one app. So how can you prove that We Chat is all in one app?

Hypothetically let us take an example, you are sitting at your home and you find your dog dirty. You open We Chat and click some buttons, and a man with Shampoo and big vacuum arrives since you have clicked the washing service from the app. In an hour, your dog gets cleaned. You take the photograph of your dog and post that in We Chat. Your friend being bored in the office opens We Chat, sees your photograph and order the same service. Her dog too gets cleaned and she pays the bill through We Chat like you had paid earlier to the man. You both chat through We Chat. She thanks you and you tell her about the new restaurant to go for lunch. You order the food in the restaurant through the app and pay for the food from your home instantly. Your friend takes a taxi, pays for the taxi through We Chat. You both haven’t left the app, neither the man with big vacuum who cleaned your dog have left the app. The man with big vacuum on the way to his home invest the money, he has got today into a project. You both arrive the restaurant, your friend upload the photo of the dish on We Chat and she transfers the money to you that you paid for the dish. Still Neither of you, nor the man with big vacuum, nor the restaurant have left the app.

At the restaurant, there is no money, there are no menus, there are no waiters and there is only We Chat. In China 700 Million people use this app for the variety of services.

Users who have provided bank account information may use the app to pay bills, order things and services, transfer money to other users of We Chat, and pay the bill in stores that have We Chat payment option.

Artificial Intelligence in Medicine : Enhancing World of Medicine

Our fathers, forefathers always wanted us to become weather a doctor or an engineer or a scientist or professors. But how can we children of today's generation live within this boundary??? Obviously we want more than this isn’t it? How can we just get satisfied being a scientist or a doctor being precised only in a particular field, rather we want innovate more for today's world. For that huge innovations wont the idea of collaboration be the best? Yes, collaboration has been a sensational example for today's world. In this blog I am going to share one of the tremendous collaboration example.

AIM(Artificial Intelligence in Medicine) is an example of such collaboration between computer scientist and health care professionals. Medical Artificial Intelligence is primarily concerned with the construction of AI programs that perform diagnosis and make therapy recommendations. From the very earliest moment in modern history scientist and doctors alike were captivated by the potential  of such a technology might have in medicine. With intelligent computers able to store and process vast stores of knowledge, the hope was that they would become perfect “doctor in box”, assisting or surpassing clinicians with various challenges in medical science.

AIM system is expected to occupy as many branch as it can in medical treatment. Starting with generating alerts and reminders i.e. an expert system attached to a monitor that can warn of changes in patients condition in less acute circumstances it might scan laboratory test results or drug orders and send reminders or warnings through an e-mail system.

Diagnostic assistance is the next and most important expectation from AIM. When a patient case is complex, rare or the person making the diagnosis is simply inexperienced an expert system i.e AI can help come up with likely diagnosis based on patient data. In the first decade of AIM most research systems are developed to assist clinicians in the process of diagnosis, typically with the intention that it would be used during a clinical encounter with a patient. But it is clear that some of the psychological basis for developing this type of support is now considered to be less compelling given that situation assessment seems to be a bigger issue than diagnostic formulation.

Dxplain is one of the example of one of these clinical decision support system, developed at the Massachusetts General Hospital. It is used to assist in the process of diagnosis, taking set of clinical findings including signs, symptoms, laboratory data and then produces a ranked list of diagnosis. It provides justification for each differential diagnosis and suggests further investigation. This system contain a data base of crude probabilities for over 4500 clinical manifestations that are associated with over 2000 different diseases.

Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIM) is enhancing in which interactions with the outside world are not only natural but mandatory. Although the basic research topics in AIM maybe those of artificial intelligence the applied issue touch more more generally on the board field of medical informatics.

Welcome to the series of “Beginners Guide to Basic Android Settings”. This is the second part of the series which discusses about various settings you can play with related to Wireless & networks, in your Android device.

TIP 7: HOW TO SETUP APN SETTINGS ON ANDROID

APNs in Android (access point names) can be simply understood as a gateway for your Android phone to get connected to the internet. APNs lets you access mobile internet, but you’ll have to setup APN settings which varies depending upon your mobile service provider.

Setting up APN: Android Gingerbread

• Go to Settings
• Tap Wireless and Networks
• Select Mobile Networks
• Visit Access Point Names, to create a new APN

Setting up APN: Android Ice-Cream Sandwich & Android Jellybean

• Go to Settings
• Look for Mobile Network under Wireless & Networks
• Visit Access Point Names, and create a new APN

Setting up APN: Android Lollipop

• Go to Settings
• Tap Mobile Networks
• Visit Access Point Names, and create a new APN

How To Reset To Default APN Settings

Sometimes you might configure the APN settings in a wrong way and need to revert back to default. In Android Lollipop visit settings > mobile networks > access point names, tap on options and select Reset to default.

TIP 8:  HOW TO CHANGE DEFAULT SMS APP ON ANDROID

Messenger is the default SMS app on Android Lollipop. Text messages, Multimedia messages, their settings like SMS signature, push services, QuickMessage, etc are handled by this app.

Not all people have same taste when it comes to apps preferences, so some might want to change their default SMS app to some other apps like Messaging and Hangouts.

• Visit Settings
• Tap More, below Wireless & networks heading
• Open up Default SMS app
• Select the default app which you’d like to use for handling SMS

To use apps like Google Hangouts as your default SMS app, make sure you’ve already downloaded and installed them on your phone.

TIP 9: HOW TO MANUALLY SETUP AND CONNECT TO A VPN ON ANDROID

Android users can make use of VPN on their phones for browsing web anonymously and securely on a public wireless network, connect themselves to a specific network (office/home), view blocked contents like YouTube videos, webpages, etc. Using VPN on Android has one most effective use, i.e  ability to download the apps which are not available in your country.

For manually setting up a VPN on Android,

• Go to Settings
• Tap More, under Wireless and networks
• Select VPN
• Click on the + button to create a new VPN profile
• Enter each specific details
  • Name: Give a name to your private network
  • Type: From the dropdown select the type of private network you’re connecting to. (PPTP, L2TP/IPSEC, IPSec Xauth, IPSec Hybrid)
  • Server address: Type the server address of the private network. Eg, server.example.com or address can also be the IP address
  • If you’d like to change the DNS search domains, click the check box that says Show advanced options.
• Tap the SAVE option, once you’ve entered all the details

You can create numerous VPN profiles. Each time just tap on the + button and repeat above steps.

TIP 10: CONNECTING TO A MANUALLY CREATED VPN ON ANDROID

After you’ve successfully created a VPN, tap the VPN to connect to it.

Now you’ll have to enter your Username and Password to connect to that specific private network. After entering your credentials hit Connect button.

When connected to a VPN, a “VPN activated” notification will show up on the notification drawer. You can tap the notification and tap disconnect to stop connecting to that private network.

Welcome to the series of “Beginners Guide to Basic Android Settings”. This is the first part of the series which discusses about various settings you can play with related to Wireless & networks, in your Android device.

In this quick guide, you’ll find me discussing about various android settings like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Mobile Networks, Data usage, NFC, Android Beam, etc and help you get most out of your Android device.

TIP 1: HOW TO DISABLE MOBILE DATA ON ANDROID DEVICES

Using Mobile data to access Facebook, Twitter, and other applications which need internet access is not always a wise idea, until and unless you have subscription to data packages.

If you have subscribed for standard data packages then you need not worry about deduction of extra amount from your main balance. But if you do not have the subscription then you might consider disabling mobile data connection.

Besides, Keeping mobile/cellular data ON for a long period makes the battery drain quickly.

Method 1: Switch off Data Connection

The first method is to switch off the data connection. It is the best step you can do to ask your Android phone to not to connect to internet via mobile data.

• Visit settings
• Open data usage
• Toggle the setting from ON to OFF to turn of mobile data

Method 2: Delete APNs

Next thing you can do is to remove all the APNs being saved in your Android.

• Visit settings
• Open mobile networks
• Select access point names
• Delete all the APNs in the list

TIP 2: HOW TO VIEW WIFI MAC ADDRESS OF YOUR ANDROID DEVICE

Are you looking forward to register your Android phone in a wireless network, or have you planned to use MAC filter in your router at your home/office? There might be more but whatever may be the reasons, for all those purpose you’ll need the unique MAC address of your phone.

• Visit Settings
• Select Wifi
• Tap Options menu, and select Advanced
• Scroll down, and there you’ll have your WiFi MAC address. Eg, XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.

There’s also another way to view the WiFi MAC address. Open Settings, scroll down to the bottom and visit About Phone > Status > Wi-Fi MAC address.

TIP 3: HOW TO VIEW ALL SAVED WIFI NETWORKS IN ANDROID

Whenever you connect to a Wireless network in your Android, the network name and its Security information is automatically saved inside your phone. The next time when you connect to the same network you won’t need to re-enter the security credentials, the system will automatically get connected to that particular network.

• Visit Settings
• Select Wi-Fi and turn it on
• From Options, tap Saved networks to view all WiFi networks

If you want to remove any particular WiFi network from the Saved networks, just select the network and tap FORGET option. That’s it! The selected network will be removed from the list of Saved networks. Now the next time you try to connect to that network, you’ll have to enter the security credentials again.

TIP 4: HOW TO TURN YOUR ANDROID PHONE INTO A WIFI HOTSPOT

If you happen to have subscription of mobile data package and want to make use of it to connect to internet on other phones/laptops or any WiFi enabled devices, then you might consider turning your Android phone into a WiFi hotspot.

There’s this “Tethering & portable hotspot” option in your Android phone, which makes it easy to share your phone’s mobile data over WiFi as a hotspot and other devices can connect to it.

• Go to Settings
• Depending upon the version of Android you’re using, search for the option Tethering & portable hotspot. In Android Lollipop, visit More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
• Before turning WiFi hotspot, First set up the settings. Tap on Set up Wi-Fi hotspot
• Enter Network name (which is SSID), select WPA2 PSK as Security from the drop down menu, enter the Password for the hotspot
• Finally tap SAVE to save our settings for the hotspot.
• Now Turn on Portable Wi-Fi hotspot

TIP 5: HOW TO SHARE YOUR ANDROID PHONE’S INTERNET CONNECTION

Did you know that you can easily share your Android phone’s internet connection with other devices via three ways: creating WiFi hotspot, USB tethering & Bluetooth tethering.

Via USB

First connect your Android phone to PC using USB cable.

• Go to Settings
• Depending upon the version of Android you’re using, search for the option Tethering & portable hotspot. In Android Lollipop, visit More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
• Turn on USB tethering
• Turn on Mobile Data Connection (Settings > Mobile networks)

Via Bluetooth

• Go to Settings
• Depending upon the version of Android you’re using, search for the option Tethering & portable hotspot. In Android Lollipop, visit More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
• Turn on Bluetooth tethering
• Turn on Mobile Data Connection (Settings > Mobile networks)

Now you can pair any bluetooth enabled devices with this Android device to surf internet on that particular phone.

TIP 6: HOW TO SWITCH BETWEEN LTE, 3G & 2G IN YOUR ANDROID

If you’re still running in 2G or 3G then its time to upgrade your network type to LTE (if your mobile company supports this technology). You can also downgrade the network type! I’m not sure why anyone would like to downgrade their mobile network. But let me tell you that there’s a quick way to switch between these network types in your Android phones.

• Open Settings
• Tap Mobile networks
• Open Preferred network type
• Select the network type you’d prefer to use (LTE, 3G, 2G). The system will automatically switch to the new network type of your preference.

Nepal Telecom 4G for iOS, iPhone. Apple finally allowed to use 4G.

4G has been made available for Nepal Telecom

The 4G service works well in Iphone 5, 5c and 5s so far. But, there was problem in iPhone 6 and above, because the update foe iPhone iOS was not provided now the wait is over.

Telecom operators all around the world must sign an agreement with Apple to enable their customers to use devices such as iPhone and iPad on their networks. NT apparently has not entered into such a deal. The agreement basically allows a telecom company to synchronise its network with Apple devices that run on iOS, paving the way for iPhone and iPad users to use 4G service on its network. NT has said it has already requested the American smartphone maker to enable the ‘location code’. Finally apple allowed NT for it's service.

Follow the following procedure to activate 4G in iOS in Nepal.

1. Click here(this redirects you to apple's site) to go forward using 4G service in ios 6 and above.
2. Follow the instructions and download the file taking backup of your phone.

      3. Go to General>Settings>Software Update and download beta version 

Now, you will be able to use 4G Network in your iOS 6 and above devices as well.

NT had launched 4G service in the beginning of 2017. Around 50,000 NT postpaid service subscribers have switched to 4G service.NT, on October 21 2016, received permission to operate 4G service in Kathmandu and Pokhara from January 1,2017. Since then, NT has been conducting tests of the 4G service in both the places. During these tests, NT had, however, found that 4G service was inaccessible in Apple devices powered by iOS, a mobile operating system created and developed by the US smartphone maker.This means users of iPhone and iPad may not be able to use 4G service for the time being.Telecom operators all around the world must sign an agreement with Apple to enable their customers to use devices such as iPhone and iPad on their networks. NT apparently has not entered into such a deal.The agreement basically allows a telecom company to synchronize its network with Apple devices that run on iOS, paving the way for iPhone and iPad users to use 4G service on its network.NT has said it has already requested the American smartphone maker to enable the ‘location code’. While NT is all set to launch 4G service, Ncell, a privately-owned cell phone service provider, has not obtained permission to do so. As part of the preparations for launching 4G service, the telecom giant had upgraded 308 of its Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers in the Kathmandu Valley and 25 stations in Pokhara. The upgraded network allows consumers to use data at speeds of up to 32.4 Mbps. NT aims to eventually raise it to 100 Mbps. The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has authorized NT to offer 4G service with a bandwidth of 5 Mhz from the 1800 Mhz frequency band. NT has asked the regulator for another 5 Mhz bandwidth to increase the speed to 100 Mbps.

Once the pilot phase is completed, NT aims to launch the service in 15 municipalities in the first phase. The expansion will be based on the scale of demand and supply. The telecom service provider is of the view that people in remote places might not be in need of 4G service or may not want to pay more to get faster connectivity. As per the latest report prepared by the NTA, the state-owned telecommunication service provider has 13,536,114 GSM subscribers. The report states that the company has 7,504,457 internet service users using GPRS, EDGE and WCDMA technologies. There are 13.74 million internet service subscribers using these technologies across the country, according to the NTA’s data.

Locus is an organization composed of students of Electronics, Computer and Electrical Engineering from IOE, Pulchwok Campus. With a group of brilliant minds from Tribhuvan University, LOCUS has been able to mark its prestigious event every year among the IT Community of Nepal. A dozen of major events are hosted in LOCUS 2017. Some of the major attractions are 

• LOCUS PROJECT COMPETITION :
  Locus 2017 will be organizing projects competition for theme and non-theme categories. All students interested to showcase their projects are requested to give quick response.
• HACK A WEEKLEARN · DEVELOP · WINHack-a-week is one of the pre-events being organized by LOCUS as a means to bring together developers, programmers and tech-enthusiasts and stimulate them to get involved in a competitive and innovative challenge. Hack-a-week aspires to become a hub to amass large number of enthusiasts coming from different disciplines working together to come up with impactful solutions in raging issues. It is a week long event in which a number of innovative participants engage in teams of collaboration to fashion out some product in forms of software development, business modeling and ambitious marketing campaign, which revolves around one of the three themes.
• ENERGY HACKATHON
  SOLVING ENERGY PROBLEMS
  Energy Hackathon is a complete platform for solving energy related challenges with a prime motto enabling Energy Access, Reducing Energy Waste and Improving Energy Efficiency and aims to solve the energy problems of Nepal through collaborative efforts of students and amateur working in Energy sectors. The three things you need to participate in the event are: Idea, Knowledge and curiosity. The participants will be provided with food, drinks(soft only), internet and mentors during the event.

  BECOME THE ULTIMATE DRONE MASTER

  Drones are the unmanned aerial vehicles capable of autonomous or manual flight. Drones have been emerging technology in the world and its use has been in widespread areas. Nepal also has been a part of this drone revolution and to further help Nepal grasp this technology LOCUS 2017 is going to organize drone competition named "Dronacharya" as the main event in the LOCUS exhibition.

  ROBOWARZ IS THE NEW ROBO-AKHADA
  Robo Warz is a war between two robots. The robots are vehicular with differential or omnidirectional drive. The game is about pushing the opponent robot outside the circular or hexagonal Arena. The Last Robot standing in the arena will be the Winner of the game.

CAN INFO TECH, LOCUS, and KU ITMEET are three such ICT Events which provides a platform of promoting IT student's project ideas and innovations. These are the only events conducted in our Country under ICT Category.  Increasing the number of such Technology Fair and Opportunities, Students could project their ideas among a huge mass of like minded professionals. This could be their gateway to their career and also an achievement for a country in setting milestones of development with new ideas and innovations.

Get your Mediatek's MT7630e 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter working in Linux

In some laptops like HP Probook 450 G1, Asus TP300LD, the inbuilt wireless network driver is Mediatek's MT7630e 802.11bgn. After installing any version of Ubuntu, the WiFi list as well as 'Enable WiFi' option in the network list will not appear in such devices. Hence, we gotta go through following steps to get that working!

1. Firstly, confirm that your wireless network adapter is Mediatek's MT7630e 802.11bgn. To do so, open the Terminal(CTRL+ALT+T) and type:
   

   sudo lshw -C network

   
   There you can see under '*-network':

2. After you confirm that your wireless network adapter is Mediatek's MT7630e 802.11bgn, carry on following codes:

   sudo apt-get install git build-essential
   git clone https://github.com/neurobin/MT7630E.git
   cd MT7630E/
   chmod +x install test uninstall
   sudo ./install

So there you go! Neither you should restart your machine, nor any extra application needed to get the WiFi adapter working!
