7 Most Useful Quick Android Tips For Beginners

We’ve been consistently coming up with various guides and tutorials for Android. If you haven’t still checked our beginner guide to basic Android settings, then you want to check them out because you might be missing 10 very useful tips to get most out of your Android device.
Moving on, here are seven most useful quick Android tips. These tips are definitely helpful to increase your productivity level, which includes disabling vibration during phone calls, taking screenshots, settings default dialer, optimizing phone screen, viewing saved wireless network password, hiding files and folders, and adjusting brightness using status bar.

TIP 1: HOW TO DISABLE VIBRATION DURING CALLS ON ANDROID

Whenever you get calls on your Android, by default the device rings along with vibration. This feature during calls is useful if you’re in a noisy place where its difficult to hear the ringtone; in that case the vibration might make you aware of incoming call.
But, vibration during calls is not always useful, so some of you might want to disable it. Disabling vibration might also save you some percentage of your battery charge.
On your Android device,
  • Go to Settings
  • Open Sounds
  • Scroll down to the Vibrate section and turn on/off Also vibrate for calls option
In this way you can now select your own preference during incoming call, either ring only or both ring & vibrate.

TIP 2: HOW TO TAKE A SCREENSHOT ON ANDROID

Do you want to share your score after getting a new high-score in a game, share portion of webpages, or share anything that’s on your Android screen? Whatever might be the reasons, you can simply take a screenshot to capture your Android screen and share it online or do whatever you’d want.
Taking a Screenshot on Android
  • Hold down Power button + Volume down buttons at the same time
  • Continue holding the buttons until you hear a click or a screenshot sound
To view screenshot
  • Visit Gallery app
  • You’ll find your screenshot image under Screenshots album

TIP 3: HOW TO SET THE DEFAULT DIALER IN ANDROID

Making an app default (selecting “always” options) means that the system won’t display any prompt to select an app the next time. One of my friend recently downloaded a dialer app from Google Play, and made that particular downloaded app the default dialer app to make calls. Now he wanted to revert back to the Android default dialer.
Well, there is an easy way to revert to the default one.
Visit settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
Select the “downloaded” among the tab menu, to view the list of applications which you’ve downloaded. From the list select the dialer app which you’ve downloaded. Within the dialer app info page, scroll down and press the “clear defaults” button.
That’s it, now open the dialer, and this time you’ll be prompted to select an app to open the dialer.

TIP 4: HOW TO OPTIMIZE PHONE SCREEN IN CYANOGENMOD

LiveDisplay, one of the cool feature which CyanogenMod has added to their nightlies and I personally first came across this feature on OnePlus phones running CyanogenMod 12.1. LiveDisplay optimizes the phone screen based on time, providing various options including color temperature, brightness & saturations, enhance colors, screen color.
Viewing LiveDisplay Settings in CyanogenMod
  • Visit Settings
  • Select Display & Lights
  • Tap on LiveDisplay
Now let’s go through the available options which you can manipulate to optimize your phone screen.
Activating Night Mode in CyanogenMod
Visit Settings > Display & Lights > LiveDisplay, and tap on Display mode to select Night which automatically activates Night mode on your CyanogenMod phone.
Similarly, you can activate the Outdoor mode which optimizes the settings so that you can effectively use your phone while you’re outdoor, under bright sun.
Activating Automatic Screen Optimization in CyanogenMod
  • Visit Settings
  • Select Display & Lights
  • Tap on LiveDisplay
  • And select Automatic from the list of modes
Instead of selecting modes (day, night, outdoor), some might consider allowing the system itself to auto manage and optimize. No matter, which time you use your phone, the system automatically adjusts its settings.
Adjusting Screen Color of Your Phone Screen
While you’re inside LiveDisplay settings, visit Screen color option below Calibration. Here you can adjust the Hue, Saturation, Contrast and Intensity of the screen.
You have predefined settings: Standard & Vivid – available for adjusting Screen color.
If you want to manually adjust the settings select Custom, and tap the gear icon. Now slide the sliders as per your preference and once you’re done, tap SAVE button to apply the changes.

TIP 5: HOW TO VIEW SAVED WIFI PASSWORD ON ANDROID DEVICES

Sometimes you might forget the password of the Wireless networks (WiFi) which you’ve previously connected to. Once you connect to a network, your Android system automatically saves the network’s details, so that the next time you connect to the same network you won’t have to enter password again.
Logging into the router and viewing the wireless settings might be the first option, only if you’ve access to the router. What if its a public, or other networks (office/company) where you don’t have direct access to the router?  Well, in that case there’s a workaround that lets you view saved WiFi password on your Android device.
Disclaimer: Make sure that your Android device is already rooted.
  • Open Terminal Emulator on your Android device
  • Type su in the terminal to gain superuser access
  • Use cat command to view the content of /data/misc/wifi/WPA_supplicant.conf file.
cat /data/misc/wifi/WPA_supplicant.conf
WPA_supplicant.conf files stores the details of networks which you’ve connected to.

TIP 6: HOW TO HIDE FILES/FOLDERS IN YOUR ANDROID DEVICE

Whenever we are forced to hang out with kids and relatives, it’s usual case that your cousins are always curious to play games and view gallery on your mobile and the hard part is you can’t say “NO”. In fact, someone may sneak your phone without permission and take valuable or private data that you don’t want to share.
Here’s the quick solution for your android device to hide any file without using any third party app. The hidden file will not be view-able on your gallery, multimedia players, office editors, etc. It’s easy and only takes a second to hide your data from anyone until and unless the person knows about this trick.
  • Unlock your device, and open File Manager
  • Click the setting option > Show Hidden files
  • Now go the desired file/folder that you want to hide.
  • Just rename the file with (.) dot before the filename and save it. For example, “.sandy” or “.thequickblog”
  • And the file will be hidden. You can mark/unmark the Show hidden file option whenever you desire.
Hiding the Contents Without Renaming the Folder
  • To do so you can create a file by naming it as “.nomedia” inside the folder that you want to hide. It’s content on the Gallery will be hidden without renaming the folder.
Note: It works on most of the android devices but for Sony Xperia series, this workaround works only if it is a Premium app. In free version you can’t access this feature. You better download a file manager from google play store.
For Samsung devices, the name of default file manager is Files.

TIP 7: HOW TO ADJUST BRIGHTNESS BY SLIDING ACROSS STATUS BAR IN CYANOGENMOD

Ability to adjust brightness of your Android device screen by sliding across status bar is one of the cool feature which CyanogenMod has brought to their latest ROMs. In most of the android devices, brightness can be adjusted using the brightness level bar, but CyanogenMod users can quickly adjust the screen brightness of their CM powered Android device by sliding across the status bar.
Activating “Slide Status Bar to Adjust Brightness” Feature
  • Visit Settings
  • Select Status Bar under personal heading
  • Tap on Brightness control
Adjusting Brightness from Status Bar
Place your finger over the status bar and slide from left to right to increase the brightness and similarly slide for right to left to decrease. You can see the changes in the brightness level of your device in realtime, while you slide your finger across the status bar.

CONCLUSION

I hope these android tips were in anyway helpful to you.
Android is the most customizable phone out there, there are many workarounds which you can perform with your Android device to get most out of it. So for now, I am signing off from this post, promising you guys that I will be back with more other Android tips and guides.

Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager: Add Network Drive / Shared Folder in Windows Server 2012 R2

Share a folder outside the VM in computer's drive and add a network location inside i.e. from Virtual Machine enabling the Guest Addition. This enables access to your shared folder.

In computing, this situation of inadequate softwares/tools/operating systems occurs quite often if you are a tech junkie who loves experimenting numerous tools or operating systems on your single machine. Harddisk partitioning for dual boot operating system is one popular solution to accommodate two

Today, I did Windows Server 2012 setup on my Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager which was an easy task. But right after I completed the setup, I find out that  I was unable to access my computer files and folders from the virtual machine I set up.

So this blog is about my findings on accessing your machine's drive (file and folders) while you are  using an operating system installed inside your virtual machine. This is actually a simple task and it took me less than five minute to configure but at least half an hour to find the solution.

I'm using Oracle VM Virtual Box Version 5.1.8 r111374(QT5.5.1). While I tried to add a network drive for using local partition as a shared drive on my newly installed Windows Server 2012 in my VM following error was encountered:
Oracle VM requires the VirtualBox Guest Addition be enabled in order to add shared folder. The error message also also tells how to use virtual machine inside the virtual machine. Our task now is to install guest addition. To do so:
  • Go to Devices menu
  • Select Insert Guest Additions CD image
Install the Guest Addition for Virtual Box. after installation of Guest Addition, we are now able to add the guest drives to access from virtual machine. Now this is how we add shared drives:
  • Right Click your Virtual Machine
  • Click Settings
  • Click Shared Folders

  • Add a Machine folder
  • Not that in order to access any folder from you virtual machine you first need to change the folder properties and share it. Only the shared folders are accessible.

After you've shared a folder outside the VM in your computer's drive and added a network location from the inside  i.e. from your Virtual Machine enabling the Guest Addition. you can now easily access the shared folder.

This was a simple yet useful tips that I've shared in this blog. On my Next blog I will share how to download files from your web browser (Internet Explorer which is the default browser available) in a Windows Server.
HAPPY BLOGGING

Quantum Computing: Next Generation's Biggest Invention

The theoretical studies of computation systems which makes the direct use of quantum – mechanical phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement to perform operations on data is called quantum computing. Quantum computers are different from binary digital electronic computers. Binary digital electronic computer uses binary digit 0 and 1 where as quantum computation uses quantum bits which can also be superposition of both 0 and 1. The field of quantum computing was initiated by the work of Paul Benioff and Yuri Manin in 1980. By the change of time many others took a initiative to develop it.

What is a qubit?

A qubit just like a classical bit has two possible states | 0 > and (denoted in dirac notation ). But unlike classical bit a qubit can be in more than two possible states. That is, it can be in a superposition of states and . Mathematically, a superposition state looks like,

In the above expression is the probability amplitude for state and β is the probability amplitude for state . and both can be complex numbers. Since and are probabilities amplitudes, they must be normalized. Mathematically,

Qubits can be represented in terms of polarization of a photon where vertical and horizontal polarization are the two states. It can also be represented in terms of spin of an electron. There are number of quantum computing models distinguished by the basic elements in which the computation is decomposed.

Quantum Computing Models

Adiabatic quantum computer based on quantum annealing
Here, the computation gets decomposed into a slow continuous transformation of an initial Hamiltonian (is a operator corresponding to the total energy of the system in quantum mechanics) into a final Hamiltonian whose ground state contain the solution.

One way quantum computer
The computation decomposed into sequence of one quantum bit measurements applied to a highly entangled initial state or cluster state.

Topological quantum computers
The computation decomposed into the brading of anyons in a 2D lattice.

Quantum gate array: The computation decomposed into sequence of few quantum bit quantum gates.
A quantum bit can hold even more information, e.g. up to two bits using superdense coding. Hence, quantum computers will be able to analyze the vast amount of data collected by telescope and seek out earth like planet. The concept of quantum computational models will help to determine how diseases developed. Google itself is using a quantum computer to design software that can distinguish cars from landmarks.

A quantum may be the smallest measurable finite unit but quantum computing may unlock doors to infinity. It is expected to be the next biggest invention in computing despite the fact that most experts concede that the first quantum computer may be some years off.

We Chat: All in one super app

China, the fast-growing economy and most populated country of the world. If you wanna know about how the internet will be in the future, China has become a guide to the world. For every others internet is internet, but for China internet is intranet. They have strong firewall to filter the foreign sites. So there is no Facebook, no YouTube, no google. Instead they have fulfilled the internet vacuum with Chinese big monster apps which have introduced the huge companies. So, for Google there’s Baidu, for YouTube there’s Youku, for twitter there’s Sina Weibo and the list goes on and on. Before, outside world hadn’t cared much about Chinese Internet but now all of the sudden they have developed some of the amazing features that the western apps are trying to copy them. The greatest example of this is WE CHAT that does every single function of number of western apps.
We Chat is actually a super app, performs number of works. It’s like Facebook, Skype and Uber, its more like amazon, Instagram, Venom and tinder. You can find every service you wish to to have in We Chat. You can book movie tickets from We Chat. You can book the flight tickets and moreover you can get the flight status notification from We Chat. You can book the taxi through We Chat and pay the bill through same app. It has the heat map that shows how crowed a place is, or popular tourists site, or your favourite shopping mall and a list of services goes on and on.
Furthermore, this super app provides text messaging, voice messaging, one to many broadcast messaging, video conferencing, video games, sharing photographs and videos, location sharing and many more. Another amazing feature is that, it can share the contacts with people nearby via Bluetooth and provides various contacting features to contact the desired person, who is connected to the app. The list of services goes on basically forever.

The app is available on Android, iPhone, BhackBerry, Windows Phone and Symbian phone. It is not that the list of features make the app so powerful, the reason is that it is all in one app. So how can you prove that We Chat is all in one app?

Hypothetically let us take an example, you are sitting at your home and you find your dog dirty. You open We Chat and click some buttons, and a man with Shampoo and big vacuum arrives since you have clicked the washing service from the app. In an hour, your dog gets cleaned. You take the photograph of your dog and post that in We Chat. Your friend being bored in the office opens We Chat, sees your photograph and order the same service. Her dog too gets cleaned and she pays the bill through We Chat like you had paid earlier to the man. You both chat through We Chat. She thanks you and you tell her about the new restaurant to go for lunch. You order the food in the restaurant through the app and pay for the food from your home instantly. Your friend takes a taxi, pays for the taxi through We Chat. You both haven’t left the app, neither the man with big vacuum who cleaned your dog have left the app. The man with big vacuum on the way to his home invest the money, he has got today into a project. You both arrive the restaurant, your friend upload the photo of the dish on We Chat and she transfers the money to you that you paid for the dish. Still Neither of you, nor the man with big vacuum, nor the restaurant have left the app.

At the restaurant, there is no money, there are no menus, there are no waiters and there is only We Chat. In China 700 Million people use this app for the variety of services.
Users who have provided bank account information may use the app to pay bills, order things and services, transfer money to other users of We Chat, and pay the bill in stores that have We Chat payment option.

[VLOG] EXPLORE GADGETS: Peri Duo The iPhone case

Explore Gadget is a trending YouTube channel which provides informational videos, unique gadgets ,tech accessories, android applications & games, iOS applications & games, tutorials, how-to and many more. On top of that this is the only tech channel in Nepal with such a huge number of subscribers and 80M+ views and growing. After watching wonderful video by Explore Gadget I came up with this review of this iPhone case

Peri Duo: The iPhone case

What do we use to make our phones look trendy and protect them?? Buy new covers? Sparkling glitters, Cartoon characters, Graffiti etc. I mean we get tons of accessories to make our phone look fabulous, trendy and beautiful. But what benefit do we get from these covers?? Definitely it will emphasize the looks and also protect our phones when it crashes. BUT what if we get more features? In one cover!!!!

Yeah you heard it guys…one cover and lots of facilities. We are here talking about ‘PERI duo’, world’s first iPhone case with integrated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi speakers and a 2900 mAh battery life for iPhone 6/6s. We all must agree that iPhone users always get benefited by new trendy techs.
This smartphone case turns your phone into a retro looking boom box. The back of the case is dominated by a pair of round covered speakers and also there are four control buttons with led indicator. This cover is named duo after its two primary features: the speaker system and the extra battery. The 2900 mAh battery gives you more than enough charge to play your tunes and at least check your phone for few hours, with music at a reasonable volume you can expect up to 10 hours of playback through the direct line and 15 hours using Wi-Fi. It also has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi compatibility because of which you can operate it without physically accessing your iPhone to the case. It also comes with DSP /equalizer function that u can pay around it, there is another button quick play back for your favorite music and also an integrated microphone.

Talking about the sound behind the speaker are 140 mm near the driver and a radiator for that extra base punch. The amplification power is 4Watt .Beside all these perks the combine speaker and battery add a bulk to the phone. But with these feature we can adjust a little right? As per the price it costs about $150. It’s not cheap but with all the features we are getting in one cover I guess it is worth buying.
So, if you don’t have space for Bluetooth speaker and a battery problem with your iPhone here is an excellent offer.

Artificial Intelligence in Medicine : Enhancing World of Medicine

Our fathers, forefathers always wanted us to become weather a doctor or an engineer or a scientist or professors. But how can we children of today's generation live within this boundary??? Obviously we want more than this isn’t it? How can we just get satisfied being a scientist or a doctor being precised only in a particular field, rather we want innovate more for today's world. For that huge innovations wont the idea of collaboration be the best? Yes, collaboration has been a sensational example for today's world. In this blog I am going to share one of the tremendous collaboration example.

AIM(Artificial Intelligence in Medicine) is an example of such collaboration between computer scientist and health care professionals. Medical Artificial Intelligence is primarily concerned with the construction of AI programs that perform diagnosis and make therapy recommendations. From the very earliest moment in modern history scientist and doctors alike were captivated by the potential  of such a technology might have in medicine. With intelligent computers able to store and process vast stores of knowledge, the hope was that they would become perfect “doctor in box”, assisting or surpassing clinicians with various challenges in medical science.

AIM system is expected to occupy as many branch as it can in medical treatment. Starting with generating alerts and reminders i.e. an expert system attached to a monitor that can warn of changes in patients condition in less acute circumstances it might scan laboratory test results or drug orders and send reminders or warnings through an e-mail system.

Diagnostic assistance is the next and most important expectation from AIM. When a patient case is complex, rare or the person making the diagnosis is simply inexperienced an expert system i.e AI can help come up with likely diagnosis based on patient data. In the first decade of AIM most research systems are developed to assist clinicians in the process of diagnosis, typically with the intention that it would be used during a clinical encounter with a patient. But it is clear that some of the psychological basis for developing this type of support is now considered to be less compelling given that situation assessment seems to be a bigger issue than diagnostic formulation.

Dxplain is one of the example of one of these clinical decision support system, developed at the Massachusetts General Hospital. It is used to assist in the process of diagnosis, taking set of clinical findings including signs, symptoms, laboratory data and then produces a ranked list of diagnosis. It provides justification for each differential diagnosis and suggests further investigation. This system contain a data base of crude probabilities for over 4500 clinical manifestations that are associated with over 2000 different diseases.

Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIM) is enhancing in which interactions with the outside world are not only natural but mandatory. Although the basic research topics in AIM maybe those of artificial intelligence the applied issue touch more more generally on the board field of medical informatics.
