Open Data Day 2017

Open Data Day is a gathering of citizens around the world to write applications, liberate data, create visualizations and publish analysis using open data. It is an effort to show support and encourage the adoption of open data policies by worlds local, regional and national government.

Open data is yearly event based on shared enthusiasm for open data since 2010. This year also with the same enthusiasm we are celebrating Open Data Day on March 4, 2017. Last year 262 cities celebrated open data day. During this event, participants are able to grab an opportunity to share their experiences with open data, open map, future projects, etc.

Why is it celebrated in Kathmandu, Nepal?
Kathmandu is one among many cities around the world taking part in international movement on open data to create awareness of what and how it can be greater use to government and to general public. With the communities like Open Nepal, Kathmandu Living Labs, Open Knowledge Foundation, FOSS Nepal, Mozilla Nepal, Wikimedia Nepal; open data has now established an important concept and these communities played a role in promoting transparency, accountability and citizen engagement in Nepal.

What will happen during Open Data Day in 2017 in Kathmandu?

Open Data Day is all about motivating data enthusiasts around the world. Following the same spirit Open Data Day 2017- Kathmandu will provide opportunities for people to explore and collaborate on open data for solving issues regarding public procurement and health in Nepal. They are organizing a various programs such as:
Thematic presentation and Panel Discussion

3 Quick Tips to Help You Use Facebook More Effectively

I don’t think it is necessary to introduce Facebook. With almost a billion plus users around the globe, Facebook is the top social networking site, at present. The social network allows its users to share photos & videos, update status about what they’ve been up to, manage businesses via pages, chat with friends, play games, and more.
Facebook has always updated itself according to the need of the time and its users. Tons of new features have been brought into play and dozens of times the user-interface has changed, since it first went online in 2004.
But there are specific updates and features which some users might not want to make use of.
Firstly, there are some Facebook users who might not play games and use apps on Facebook. They just want to get status updates, interact in status & photos. If these people start receiving tons of Facebook games requests, they’re definitely going to get irritated.

HOW TO STOP RECEIVING GAME REQUESTS ON FACEBOOK

Games like Candy Crush Saga, Farmville, Criminal Case, Mafia Wars, and many more keep on sending notifications which are actually very irritating for especially non gamers like me myself. I hate them more than anyone else.
Blocking Game Requests on Facebook
  • Login to your Facebook Account
  • Go to Settings > Account Settings
  • Click on Apps
  • Go to Platform
  • On next page you’ll be asked if you want to receive notifications for games invite or not. Simply click NO
Now on you’ll never receive any sorts of requests or invites from games on Facebook.
Secondly, not every Facebook users might be making use of WiFi while surfing their news feed. Recently, Facebook rolled out an update which makes videos play automatically, without having you to click on the play button. Well, those users using Mobile data (without subscription) are definitely going to have problem in this case.

HOW TO DISABLE VIDEOS AUTO-PLAY ON FACEBOOK

From Mobile/Tablet FACEBOOK app,
  • Open the application, click the option on the top right below the chat bar
  • App setting Videos play automatically
  • Click the option off
  • Likewise you can use On or WiFi only options whenever required
From desktop,
  • Login to your Facebook account
  • Visit Setting
  • Go to, Videos Auto play videos, and turn it Off
That is it! You can now soundly go through your Facebook news feed without worrying about your mobile data usage.
Lastly, If you are on a slower wireless network, or using Mobile data to surf Facebook on your Mobile phone, you can choose a proper setting to control how much data Facebook uses on your phone.
Photos are the data hungry element of Facebook; higher the quality of photos – the more it takes time to load the page. So when you’re on a slower WiFi network or on mobile data, you might want to decide how you want your posts to appear while surfing Facebook.

CONTROL HOW MUCH DATA FACEBOOK DOWNLOADS ON YOUR PHONE

  • Login to your Facebook account on your phone
  • Scroll down to the bottom and click Settings & Privacy
  • Open General Page
  • Tap on Edit next to Data Usage
  • Choose one option between : Less, Normal & More
What does Less, Normal & More Data Usage Mean on Facebook
  • Less data usage means Facebook will no more display any photos on your newsfeed.
  • Normal data usage means Facebook will show all the photos, but in low quality.
  • More data usage means Facebook will show all the photos in high quality. If you’re on a much faster Wireless network or you’ve mobile data package subscription then you might want to select this option.

How to Get .NP Domain Name for Free

If you’re unaware about this then let me make you clear that you can easily get .np domain name either for personal use or for your business purposes. The domain registrations done under under .NP ccTLD (A country code top-level domain is an Internet top-level domain generally used or reserved for a country, sovereign state, or dependent territory identified with a country code. All ASCII ccTLD identifiers are two letters long, and all two-letter top-level domains are ccTLDs.) is free of cost and is done by Mercantile Communications.
You can apply for a domain like COM.NP, ORG.NP, EDU.NP, NET.NP, GOV.NP, NAME.NP, etc. These are only some of the domains, if you want the full list please visit register.com.np. And today in this post I’ll discuss how easily you can register a .NP domain name for yourself.
Disclaimer: .NP domains are available only for Nepalese citizens and businesses based in Nepal.
Without wasting time around, let’s move directly to the tutorial. I’ll try my best to explain whatever steps you’ll have to go through for .NP domain registration. For your comfort, I recommend watching the above video.

HOW TO REGISTER .NP DOMAIN NAME FOR FREE

  • Open up your browser and go to register.com.np.
  • Now enter any domain name and check if it is available. Once you come across an available domain, and you’re satisfied, drag the box to the basket on the right.
  • Next thing you’ll have to do is register for the site. Choose a username, and enter your email ID and verify it. And finally click on the red ‘register’ button (it will become red when you’re done).
  • Check your email and activate your account. After activation, enter your username and password to login to the site.
  • In the new page, you’ll see that you’re domain has been added to just requested tab. Now click on ‘edit’ and you’ll be taken to next page where you’ll have to enter your details.
  • Enter your details: your name, address, phone & mobile number. After you’ve added these details, click on ‘NameServers’ from the sidebar on the left.
  • This is an important section.  Here you’ll be asked to upload your scanned photo of either your citizenship or passport or driving license. Once you select the scanned file, click on upload button. And your scanned photo will be uploaded on the site.
  • And below you’ll have to enter name serves for your domain. Okay, you might ask what are name server. For clear understanding, I recommend you to research about it.
That’s it! Now after one or two days your domain name will be registered.

Above the Clouds: A Berkeley View of Cloud Computing : A SUMMARY

DISCUSSION

Conventionally cloud can be referred as Service over Internet and hardware, but now the term cloud computing is referred for Software as a service. Cloud is now the demand for all tech giants due to some of the benefits like: decrease in cost of electricity, network bandwidth, operations, hardware availability at very large economic scale. We can make a lot of money, leverage existing investment, define a franchise, become a platform and attack a business incubation, by adapting the cloud computing. Cloud services were not user earlier, it is due to the reliability scale which was not prominent. But now cloud efficiently provides new tech trends and business models included as cloud platform. Cloud these days provide new application opportunities, mobile interactive application and parallel batch processing , which has been the reason for catching the huge mass of cloud service consumers.

FINDINGS

Cloud computing strongly follows the ‘pay-as-you-go’ principle, which enables the feature elasticity providing its vendors the usage based pricing. Cloud vendors provide Virtualized resources as computation models or Virtual Machine, Storage model and Networking model. Cloud is more economic to rely on then other existing alternatives. Cloud computing application is focused on three models: Model of Computation, Storage and Communication. Software Licensing as an alternative cloud provides Pay-for-use Licensing. Conventional alternatives has limited storage but cloud provides invent storage Data-Lock In was the main issue in conventional alternatives whereas cloud provides many standardize APIs for maintaining and manipulating our data. Earlier there were no availability of services to host or run our system, but now cloud providers provide business continuity. Even cloud uses Elasticity to defend against the DDoS attacks. Cloud has improved virtual machine support: Flash memory gang scheduling Virtual Machines. Earlier bugs in Large-Scale Distributed Systems were a major issue, bug in a single hub used to damage the whole system but cloud provides invent debugger that relies on distributed virtual machines which solves the bugs without hampering the system.

ARGUMENTS

From the cloud provider’s view, the construction of very large data centers at low cost sites using commodity computing, storage and networking uncovers the possibility of selling those resources on a pay-as-you-go model below the costs of many medium sized data centers, while making a profit by statistically multiplexing among a large software startup to build its own data centre as it would for a hardware startup to build its own fabrication line. Cloud specifically focuses on following concerns:
  • Application Software of the future will likely have a piece that runs on clients and a piece that runs in the cloud. The cloud piece needs to both scale down rapidly as well as scale up, which is a new requirement for software systems.
  • Infrastructure Software of the future needs to be cognizant that it is no longer running on bare metal but on virtual machines.
  • Moreover, it needs to have billing system built in from the beginning, as it is very difficult to retrofit an accounting system.
  • Hardware Systems of the future needs to be designed at the scale of a container (at least a dozen racks ) rather than single rack.

Graphene Super Capacitor : Future of dash charging

Today’s technology has push the mobile devices far beyond than its limit. We can possibly imagine how smart phones has made our life comfortable and straightforward. With the ratio of developing smart phones their batteries hasn’t been able to be in the point where they should be. Of course there are dash charging but still they are time consuming and not completely developed as they need to be. And still we are adopting the traditional way of charging, using lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries.

The concept of Graphene Super Capacitor might be the history changer for tomorrow’s world of fast charging. A battery, high energy storage charges slowly and discharges slowly this ability is energy density. Similarly, capacitor , a low energy storage charges rapidly and discharges rapidly which is the power density. Combining the best of both will lead to fast charging and slow discharging. Super capacitors lies between the concept of this two energy storage methods.

Eesha Khare, a graduate from Lynbrook High School California developed a super capacitor prototype that charges very rapidly and would last longer for more charging cycles. And was runner up at Intel International Science and engineering Fair (2013) bringing out this prototype. Its still prototype in the current state but proved to be work.

Her prototype could be fully charged within time interval of 20-30 seconds and hold the charge for longer like on other similar devices. It lasts for 10,000 cycles compared to batteries in current world 1000 cycles. Much greater achievement in field of energy storage.

Nano scale and mass scale fabrication hasn’t been practically possible on today’s world. Gradually, scaling up this prototype will lead to powering phones and electric cars. Like increasing the technology the maH of batteries will also certainly increase in the future.

Imagine plugging your phone in, charging it for about 20 second and of that charge it will work one day or more.

A Day's power in half an hour: One plus 3T

Like it's said 'Life is a race.If you don' run fast you'll get trampled'. And here we are talking about the most important part of a human life 'A cell phone'. We all have studied that cell is the basic unit of our life,so is our cell phones😼.
Like we are dependent on our cell phones, our cell phones are dependent on their batteries. What if we run fast in our life but our phone doesn't? What if we have to make an important call and your phone shows a low battery? What if you want to capture the best moment of your life and damn battery is low again? I mean who wants that? We expect our phone to work at least for a day without charging. We all are living in a busy life and we have no separate time to let our phone charge for hours. Big Problem, right??

And here keeping these all things in mind One plus have created a sibling phone named as OnePlus 3T. As the name suggests, this device is essentially a souped up or 'Turbo' version of Oneplus that builds on everything we loved about the first while giving it a slightly more competitive edge against the competition.
Oneplus 3T comes with Dash charge. Dash charge is faster, safer, cooler and simply better than any other charging technology available today. Unlike other technologies, charging remain consistent even while gaming, live-streaming or demanding activities. The 3400mAh battery features a 13% increase in capacity over the Oneplus 3 which gives the solution to all the battery problem we face in our busy life. It take just half an hour to charge which will last all day long.

Not only the charger and battery life OnePlus 3T has Qualcomn Snapdragon 821(2.5GHz) which runs the most demanding apps and games with enhanced performance. 6 GB of RAM can juggle countless task without slowing down and internal storage of up to 128GB means running out of space is a thing of the past. And the camera of this phone offers 16 MP front and rear camera which gives you the crisp and sharp shots because of the cutting-edge noise reduction and improved stabilization technologies. Lightening fast shutter speed, snappy auto focus and intelligent software combine to create unmatched smartphone camera experience.

As far as the design is concerned, the OnePlus 3T looks exactly like its older sibling, and features the same full metal uni body construction, with a slightly curved back and rounded sides and corners. Despite being made entirely of metal, the phone is surprisingly light, and because the back tapers along the edges, it feels thinner as well, making for a device that is very comfortable to hold.

With a 5.5 inch with AMOLED display with 1080p resolution we get rich and vibrant colors with lot of contrast, and the optical dark mode that is built-in to Oxygen OS taking fantastic advantage of deep inky blacks. If you are not fan of vibrancy though, it is also easy to switch to sRGB color mode display setting that provides a more natural and less saturated look.

" PLAY MORE, DO MORE,STORE MORE" this awesome featured gadget costs $439 in today's date. So, if your looking for a phone with dash charge, camera that allows you to click in every angle with 1080p resolution then do invest it on OnePlus 3T.

7 Most Useful Quick Android Tips For Beginners

We’ve been consistently coming up with various guides and tutorials for Android. If you haven’t still checked our beginner guide to basic Android settings, then you want to check them out because you might be missing 10 very useful tips to get most out of your Android device.
Moving on, here are seven most useful quick Android tips. These tips are definitely helpful to increase your productivity level, which includes disabling vibration during phone calls, taking screenshots, settings default dialer, optimizing phone screen, viewing saved wireless network password, hiding files and folders, and adjusting brightness using status bar.

TIP 1: HOW TO DISABLE VIBRATION DURING CALLS ON ANDROID

Whenever you get calls on your Android, by default the device rings along with vibration. This feature during calls is useful if you’re in a noisy place where its difficult to hear the ringtone; in that case the vibration might make you aware of incoming call.
But, vibration during calls is not always useful, so some of you might want to disable it. Disabling vibration might also save you some percentage of your battery charge.
On your Android device,
  • Go to Settings
  • Open Sounds
  • Scroll down to the Vibrate section and turn on/off Also vibrate for calls option
In this way you can now select your own preference during incoming call, either ring only or both ring & vibrate.

TIP 2: HOW TO TAKE A SCREENSHOT ON ANDROID

Do you want to share your score after getting a new high-score in a game, share portion of webpages, or share anything that’s on your Android screen? Whatever might be the reasons, you can simply take a screenshot to capture your Android screen and share it online or do whatever you’d want.
Taking a Screenshot on Android
  • Hold down Power button + Volume down buttons at the same time
  • Continue holding the buttons until you hear a click or a screenshot sound
To view screenshot
  • Visit Gallery app
  • You’ll find your screenshot image under Screenshots album

TIP 3: HOW TO SET THE DEFAULT DIALER IN ANDROID

Making an app default (selecting “always” options) means that the system won’t display any prompt to select an app the next time. One of my friend recently downloaded a dialer app from Google Play, and made that particular downloaded app the default dialer app to make calls. Now he wanted to revert back to the Android default dialer.
Well, there is an easy way to revert to the default one.
Visit settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
Select the “downloaded” among the tab menu, to view the list of applications which you’ve downloaded. From the list select the dialer app which you’ve downloaded. Within the dialer app info page, scroll down and press the “clear defaults” button.
That’s it, now open the dialer, and this time you’ll be prompted to select an app to open the dialer.

TIP 4: HOW TO OPTIMIZE PHONE SCREEN IN CYANOGENMOD

LiveDisplay, one of the cool feature which CyanogenMod has added to their nightlies and I personally first came across this feature on OnePlus phones running CyanogenMod 12.1. LiveDisplay optimizes the phone screen based on time, providing various options including color temperature, brightness & saturations, enhance colors, screen color.
Viewing LiveDisplay Settings in CyanogenMod
  • Visit Settings
  • Select Display & Lights
  • Tap on LiveDisplay
Now let’s go through the available options which you can manipulate to optimize your phone screen.
Activating Night Mode in CyanogenMod
Visit Settings > Display & Lights > LiveDisplay, and tap on Display mode to select Night which automatically activates Night mode on your CyanogenMod phone.
Similarly, you can activate the Outdoor mode which optimizes the settings so that you can effectively use your phone while you’re outdoor, under bright sun.
Activating Automatic Screen Optimization in CyanogenMod
  • Visit Settings
  • Select Display & Lights
  • Tap on LiveDisplay
  • And select Automatic from the list of modes
Instead of selecting modes (day, night, outdoor), some might consider allowing the system itself to auto manage and optimize. No matter, which time you use your phone, the system automatically adjusts its settings.
Adjusting Screen Color of Your Phone Screen
While you’re inside LiveDisplay settings, visit Screen color option below Calibration. Here you can adjust the Hue, Saturation, Contrast and Intensity of the screen.
You have predefined settings: Standard & Vivid – available for adjusting Screen color.
If you want to manually adjust the settings select Custom, and tap the gear icon. Now slide the sliders as per your preference and once you’re done, tap SAVE button to apply the changes.

TIP 5: HOW TO VIEW SAVED WIFI PASSWORD ON ANDROID DEVICES

Sometimes you might forget the password of the Wireless networks (WiFi) which you’ve previously connected to. Once you connect to a network, your Android system automatically saves the network’s details, so that the next time you connect to the same network you won’t have to enter password again.
Logging into the router and viewing the wireless settings might be the first option, only if you’ve access to the router. What if its a public, or other networks (office/company) where you don’t have direct access to the router?  Well, in that case there’s a workaround that lets you view saved WiFi password on your Android device.
Disclaimer: Make sure that your Android device is already rooted.
  • Open Terminal Emulator on your Android device
  • Type su in the terminal to gain superuser access
  • Use cat command to view the content of /data/misc/wifi/WPA_supplicant.conf file.
cat /data/misc/wifi/WPA_supplicant.conf
WPA_supplicant.conf files stores the details of networks which you’ve connected to.

TIP 6: HOW TO HIDE FILES/FOLDERS IN YOUR ANDROID DEVICE

Whenever we are forced to hang out with kids and relatives, it’s usual case that your cousins are always curious to play games and view gallery on your mobile and the hard part is you can’t say “NO”. In fact, someone may sneak your phone without permission and take valuable or private data that you don’t want to share.
Here’s the quick solution for your android device to hide any file without using any third party app. The hidden file will not be view-able on your gallery, multimedia players, office editors, etc. It’s easy and only takes a second to hide your data from anyone until and unless the person knows about this trick.
  • Unlock your device, and open File Manager
  • Click the setting option > Show Hidden files
  • Now go the desired file/folder that you want to hide.
  • Just rename the file with (.) dot before the filename and save it. For example, “.sandy” or “.thequickblog”
  • And the file will be hidden. You can mark/unmark the Show hidden file option whenever you desire.
Hiding the Contents Without Renaming the Folder
  • To do so you can create a file by naming it as “.nomedia” inside the folder that you want to hide. It’s content on the Gallery will be hidden without renaming the folder.
Note: It works on most of the android devices but for Sony Xperia series, this workaround works only if it is a Premium app. In free version you can’t access this feature. You better download a file manager from google play store.
For Samsung devices, the name of default file manager is Files.

TIP 7: HOW TO ADJUST BRIGHTNESS BY SLIDING ACROSS STATUS BAR IN CYANOGENMOD

Ability to adjust brightness of your Android device screen by sliding across status bar is one of the cool feature which CyanogenMod has brought to their latest ROMs. In most of the android devices, brightness can be adjusted using the brightness level bar, but CyanogenMod users can quickly adjust the screen brightness of their CM powered Android device by sliding across the status bar.
Activating “Slide Status Bar to Adjust Brightness” Feature
  • Visit Settings
  • Select Status Bar under personal heading
  • Tap on Brightness control
Adjusting Brightness from Status Bar
Place your finger over the status bar and slide from left to right to increase the brightness and similarly slide for right to left to decrease. You can see the changes in the brightness level of your device in realtime, while you slide your finger across the status bar.

CONCLUSION

I hope these android tips were in anyway helpful to you.
Android is the most customizable phone out there, there are many workarounds which you can perform with your Android device to get most out of it. So for now, I am signing off from this post, promising you guys that I will be back with more other Android tips and guides.
